It's interesting you're having trouble with the Sofarsolar inverters. I've seen similar RS485 issues before, and sometimes it comes down to subtle address mismatches. Have you tried varying the Modbus ID slightly, even just one or two digits off from 12? Also, just thinking out loud, sometimes it helps to double-check the wiring diagram again – even my Granny old lamp worked only when the wiring was spot on! It might reveal a reversed connection or something overlooked. Hope you sort it out!
